Pioneer is where the ordinary ends and the epic begins. Whether you’re questing through immersive roleplay or trekking across volcanic ridgelines, every path leads to personal growth. It’s a place where you’ll crawl through frigid ice caves, summit mountain peaks, or spend hours strategizing around a tabletop—and somehow, it all builds the same Scout skills: teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

At over 4,500 feet in elevation, Camp Pioneer has been a launchpad for adventure since 1936, perched on the shores of Pine Lake beneath the towering presence of Mount Jefferson. Its remote alpine setting and stunning natural beauty make it unlike any other Scout camp. Here, it’s not about packed merit badge schedules—it’s about non-traditional summer experiences that push Scouts to think bigger, go farther, and connect deeper.

Camp Pioneer offers two summer camp programs, each with a different style of adventure and challenge.

Cascade Trek

High Adventure Backpacking

Cascade Trek is a high adventure program at Camp Pioneer inspired by Philmont Scout Ranch’s legendary treks. Designed for older Scouts and adult leaders seeking a physically demanding and truly rewarding outdoor experience, this program takes place in the remote, high-altitude backcountry of the Oregon Cascades.

Each crew will hike a custom-designed itinerary through alpine lakes, rugged ridgelines, volcanic peaks, and old-growth forests surrounding Camp Pioneer. Routes include daily hiking, wilderness camping, and optional challenge elements like peak ascents, navigation challenges, and Leave No Trace certifications.

• Click your preferred session date directly on the calendar. This will take you straight to the registration page, where you can find cost and payment details.

• To View Key Dates: Use the arrows on the calendar to browse and view additional important camp dates.

• To Subscribe: Click the green “Subscribe” button to quickly add all Pioneer Camp dates, meetings, and payment deadlines to your personal calendar.

What you’ll need

• Register using the adult who will be the main contact and manage the registration for next year (does not have to be the adult attending camp).
• Unit Info
• Number of youth/adults (names aren’t needed yet)
• Payment for the intial per-youth deposit (non-refundable)
